Every once in awhile, a wave of fear overcomes me. What is so typical for many to do when this happens, is to jump on the back of that horse and take it for a ride, often fast and furious, just going where the horse leads.
One of the major lessons that I have learned is to pull the reigns in on my horse and halt him right in our tracks. To refocus, with a greater awareness; to go inward, and to listen with a complete state of mindfulness. And with this, I pull my boots back up, put a new saddle on the back of the horse, jump back on, grab the reins, and point in the direction that offers the greatest opportunities. Then in sinc, we trot of in the direction of the shining sun.
Temperance. A Balancing of not only emotions, but every aspect of our lives; to always find the best route from a place of calm and wisdom.
If we were to truly ask what may be holding us back, the core answer, I believe would most often be fear. Most interesting, is that if you ask anyone what it is that they fear most, I would go out on a limb and say that the majority of the people would (A), not know, and (B) believe that the fear is justified and therefore think that there is nothing that they could do in regards to it. Either way, the fear would not be substantiated. And yet we continually feed it.
It has been said that our present recollection of an experience is an actual memory of the experience, that we are recalling the memory of the last time that we remembered it... and ... that our memory of an event can grow less precise even to the point of being totally distorted. Our brains are constantly betraying us, transforming our memories every time we think about them.
For a moment, try and look at a past experience, particularly a traumatic one. Then look at it again, several times, with different eyes, as many different perspectives as you can think. Look at it through the eyes of love and then finally, through the eyes of the victor. This is the where leaders and winners jump ahead, they will always see themselves as the winner and the victor.
So a new question arises, what is it that we are fearing? It's time to introduce a brand new concept. There is nothing to fear at all; your ride awaits, to take you on yet another incredible journey.
A Course in Miracles~ Lesson 48~ There is nothing to fear.
The idea for today simply states a fact. Illusions are not facts; in truth there is nothing to fear. It has always been very easy for many to say and recognize this statement, but very difficult to move past it; to see that it merely us holding ourselves back for no reason. It keeps us locked in the illusion, believing it and expanding upon it until we recognize it to be true. The truth is that there is nothing to fear.
Today's practice periods will be very short, very simple and very frequent. Merely repeat the idea as often as possible. You can use it with your eyes open at any time and in any situation. It is strongly recommended, however, that you take a minute or so whenever possible to close your eyes and repeat
the idea slowly to yourself several times. It is particularly important that you use the idea immediately, should anything disturb your peace of mind.
The presence of fear is a sure sign that you are trusting in your memories of experiences.
The awareness that there is nothing to fear, shows that somewhere in your mind, though not necessarily in a place you recognize, as yet, you have remembered God.
This memory will remind you that you can, and then allow you to, align with His presence within. To allow His strength take the place of your illusions.
The instant you are willing to do this there is indeed nothing to fear.
