A true miracle I have seen. I have been living alongside someone who has been experiencing depression for the last year and a half. I could never have imagined that the strongest person that I know could find that dark place. I could also never have imagined how dark that place is.
People often say that they are depressed. I have learned that there is a difference from feeling down or blue for a day or two and sinking into a dark place of hopelessness for a long period of time. It scares me to look back at it. Depression is not about feeling blue, or sad. Depression is a place without even a glimmer of hope.
I post this message, along with our dog, who is only Love. He has been by our side, through the darkness and back into the light, asking for nothing, only offering his gentleness.
I always knew that the light was somewhere there within his soul, but it wasn't easy to help him rediscover it. I was mostly patient, loving, encouraging, and kind, but there were times when I just wanted to throw in the towel or wave the white flag of surrender. But I didn't. Instead, I asked for a miracle. And that, is how I found this Course in Miracles.
My Spiritual Journey brought me back to this place of remembering who I really am at my core. This has given me that strength and love that I needed, and I am grateful beyond words. If you asked me how he found the light again, where he found his strength, or what triggered the spark, the truth is, I don't even care, what matters only is that he found it. I have learned that you cannot 'make' someone find the light, they have to find it themselves. The more you push, the more they resist. Anger and resentment only sinks them further into the abyss. We can only be loving in our guidance.
So I prayed. I prayed for a miracle. That miracle has come and it makes my heart sing! What has been the greatest of gifts in this? The person that returned is more authentic, loving, gentle & kind than the person who disappeared. Each day, and we have learned to take each day one at a time, moment by moment, is a new awakening, a new beginning, a new love. The best part of this journey is what he is teaching me. He has come back to his place, remembering his true passions for life. He is more fun and exciting; seeking to learn and experience all of life. He is calm, gentle, kind, compassionate, and helpful again; the person that I fell in love with so many years ago. We have experienced is the true Miracle within.
I know that there is more to learn and a long way to go in moving forward. But I know how far we have come. So for today, I don't want to push through anything, I want to savour. I want to rest in arms of God.
A Course in Miracles~ Lesson 69~ I rest in God.
I ask for rest today; a quietness unshaken by the world's appearances. I ask for peace and stillness; in the midst of what may be going on all around. I ask for safety, happiness, and love.
I rest in the love of God. This thought will bring to us the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness we seek. I rest in God. This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth within each of us. Its vision sees beyond appearances; to the truth in everyone and everything there is; that love is our guiding force. Here is the thought in which we, as Children of God, are born again, each one to recognize oneself.
I rest in God. Completely undismayed, this thought will carry us through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. There is no suffering it's truth cannot heal. There is no problem that it cannot solve. All this is possible for those who turn to rest in God.
This is the day of peace. Rest in God, undisturbed, confident that appearances cannot intrude. Rest in the arms of truth because you rest in God. In Him you have no cares, concerns, no burdens, anxiety, or pain, no fear of future, nor past regrets. Close your eyes, sink into stillness, and there you rest in God.
Let your periods of rest and respite reassure your mind that the storms have passed away. Let your thoughts & mind be still; thankful to accept its healing. No more fearful dreams will come, now that you rest in God. Take time today to slip away to thoughts & dreams of peace. Today, you are asked that each hour to take at least time to rest (5 is recommended). Begin by repeating in your mind;
I rest in God, a few times. Breathe it in.
This is where a tired mind is born again, each time you rest; an hourly remembrance that you come to, to bring the peace of God into your mind, that He will rest with you. With each five minutes that you rest today, seek to re-nourish, knowing that we are not alone. Hear the bird begin to sing, see the stream begin to flow; with hope reborn and energy restored, to walk with lightened steps along the road that suddenly seems easy as they go. Rest within the peace of God today.
In your thoughts, call to others to rest with you; faithful to your trust; forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Let them come from far across the world and near to you, as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all to enter here and rest with you. Rest within the peace of God, quiet and unafraid. Rest as one together here, for thus our rest is made complete. Say often and in peace, 'I rest in God.'
In peace and love, and in the light, rest in God, Lori-Lynn
